7/9/2023 0 Comments March ever forward![]() The ship was outside the shipping channel and has not been blocking navigation, unlike last year’s high-profile grounding in the Suez Canal of its sister vessel, the Ever Given, which disrupted the global supply chain for days. The Coast Guard has said it hasn’t determined what caused the Ever Forward to run aground. "If you ever been in a marsh, and you've stepped in the marsh with your boot, and then you try to pull it out and your foot comes out, but not the boot – kind of the same thing on a grander scale here," Coast Guard Captain David O'Connell said. ![]() Coast Guard Baltimore says that incident is still under investigation. Now I am looking for an appropriate Latin equivalent, i.e., a phrase that conveys: The past is behind me and does not matter too much. After dredging and then removing 500 of the 5,000 containers aboard, the ship was able to, well, move forward. worked together in the operation.Īfter removing the containers, a full moon and high spring tide helped provide a lift to the salvage vessels as they pulled and pushed the massive ship from the mud, across a dredged hole and back into the shipping channel. And last March, Ever Forward with a required 46-foot depth had problems when a wrong turn was taken leaving Seagirt, ending up in just 24 feet of water. In 2023 the clocks go forward on 26 March at 1am in the UK. There may still be a chill in the air but this marks the beginning of British Summer Time (BST). ![]() The Coast Guard, the Maryland Department of the Environment and the Evergreen Marine Corp. Visit the Royal Observatory The clocks change on the last Sunday of March, moving forward by one hour. After two attempts to free the vessel, on April 4 the Coast Guard decided to unload 500 of the nearly 4,900 containers from the ship in an effort to get it floating once again. ![]() ![]() However, by the time someone has leveled up enough to pivot jobs, it becomes difficult to justify making that abrupt of a change. Over the course of the campaign there are opportunities to shift from these pre-designated classes. Each party member is initially assigned to one of three key job classes: Mender, Scout, or Soldier. ![]() Tactics fans will be quick to point out that one of the biggest elements at play in any conflict is the juxtaposition of different character skillsets and arsenals, scattered throughout the battlefield. There are a handful of stages that have a mid-battle plot twist that potentially introduces a new goal or two, but for the most part, this entire process is fairly cut-and-dry. Most of the time players will be tasked with clearing all enemies from the arena, defeating a singular boss-type character or reaching a key position on the map with two to three party members. A series of objectives of varying levels of difficulty are displayed in the top-right hand corner of the screen and once these requirements have been met, the stage is cleared. Enchantingly StraightforwardĪs far as the actual tactical gameplay is concerned, the core mechanics don’t really stray too far from what you’d expect. These sorts of interruptions can take the form of anything from new environmental effects to additional adversaries entering the arena. Most of the exposition occurs almost entirely before or after battle, with the occasional dialog bubble mixed-in mid-conflict, when some sort of shift in a battle takes place. This will likely come as a surprise to no one, but with a focus on primarily combat, there isn’t much room for a verbose narrative between sword-slashes and defensive spells. Once the core gameplay takes center stage, the narrative ultimately takes a backseat in favor of well-designed tactics action. Don’t Miss: Our exclusive profile on Gurjin.Narrative development is a text-only affair, and while that isn’t necessarily a showstopper, it certainly proves to be a bit of a disappointment given the weight of the IP it is backing. Despite the Netflix series having a stellar voice cast, including the likes of Mark Hamill, Simon Pegg, Eddie Izzard, and Taron Egerton, not a single one of them lend their dulcet tones to this title. ![]() That’s right folks! You are going to need to actually read words on a screen. Individual frames from a page will fade in and out, while written dialog and key story points are explicitly spelled out in words. Yet, without missing a beat, I was easily able to become invested in the oddball characters and interweaving storylines that are simultaneously taking place throughout the world.Ī vast majority of the plot plays out in the form of graphic novel inspired cinematics. Here’s a dirty little secret for you: I’ve never seen the film or the series. Personally, I was very fortunate that the storyline was designed without the necessity of an encyclopedic knowledge of Henson’s seminal IP. It can both stand on its own, as well as further flesh out the universe. These breadcrumbs and side-explorations from the series form the game’s narrative backbone. There are several key elements that are alluded to in the show, but are never actually shown. Recycling characters from the original incarnation, along with a bevy of newcomers from the series, the title runs concurrently with the television narrative, without necessarily telling the same story. The recent Netflix series has opted to go the prequel route, and as such, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is taking a similar tack. Can the game manage to hold up under the scrutiny that comes with nostalgic memories, or will it crumble under the weight of the audience’s expectations? Back to the Beginning Yet here we are, on the precipice of the The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics’ release, and I still can’t believe the extent that the brand has been able to revive itself, nearly 40 years after its initial release. If you’d went one step further and told me that the same franchise would be getting its own PS4 game, I would’ve suggested gettin your head examined. When Jafar is about to turn around- which would mean he would spot Aladdin, she kisses Jafar, but then Jafar sees Aladdin anyway and attacks him. Jasmine distracts Jafar by pretending that she is in love with him to help Aladdin rescue her. After Jafar banishes Aladdin to the ends of the Earth, he then makes Jasmine his personal slave girl. ![]() Jasmine learns of Aladdin's true identity. However, upon announcing her decision to marry Aladdin, Jafar takes over Agrabah by stealing the lamp from Aladdin. She is taken back to the palace and the two share a kiss. During this time, Jasmine sees through Aladdin's disguise and accuses him for lying to her, but Aladdin convinces her that he sometimes dressed up as a commoner to "escape the pressures of palace life," which she relates to. She initially believes him to be just another arrogant suitor and finally joins the parade as personal slave girl, but later accepts his proposal after falling in love with him on a magic carpet ride. Jasmine confronts Jafar and demands that they release Aladdin, but Jafar lies to her, claiming that Aladdin has already been executed Jasmine is left distraught and blames herself.Īfter Aladdin's wish to become a prince is granted to him by The Genie, he visits Jasmine in the guise of 'Prince Ali Ababwa'. Jasmine reveals herself to them and demands that they let Aladdin go, but Razoul apologizes and explains that he is doing so on Jafar's orders. Aladdin is later arrested by guards led by Razoul after Jasmine thanks Aladdin for saving her and the two share a bonding moment at Aladdin's place as well as developing a mutual attraction. Before the merchant can punish her by amputating her hand, a street urchin named Aladdin quickly steps in and saves her by claiming that Jasmine is his sister. Unwilling to marry any of the snobbish and self-centered princes her father suggests, she runs away from home, but having never been outside the palace before, she inadvertently gets into trouble when she gives an apple to a young boy without paying for it. Jasmine is the soon-to-be sixteen year old daughter of the wealthy Sultan of Agrabah. She shows a love for adventure, and often accompanies Aladdin on his journeys. Jasmine can also be kind and caring, and is considered to be clever and intelligent. Jasmine can be very willful she refuses all the suitors that her father chooses, preferring to wed for love rather than for wealth, & the Sultan stated that as a child she once stayed up for six weeks out of simple refusal to go to bed. This eventually leads to Jasmine running away, but she gets into trouble as she is initially naive regarding the world outside the palace. She is headstrong, and longs for the freedom that other girls have. Jasmine is feisty, free-spirited, seductive and in many ways resembles the "rebellious princess" archetype. Jafar later creates a gold crown for Jasmine from her shackles when he decides to make her his queen. When Jafar takes control of Agrabah for a short while, he makes Jasmine wear a red outfit with several golden accessories, such as a snake bracelet and gold earrings. For formal occasions, she has a purple outfit that covers more of her skin and a hair accessory that hangs lower than her trademark headband. In her peasant disguise while running away from home and exploring the marketplace in Agrabah, she wears a brown robe and a tan hood. She normally wears a light blue tube top with off the shoulder sleeves, and matching pants along with blue shoes along with a matching headband with a jewel in the center and wears large gold earrings and a matching necklace. She normally wears her black hair in a ponytail, held together by two light blue bands. Jasmine is a princess with tan skin and long, lustrous black hair, big brown eyes, and a distinct hourglass figure. Although the Tale of Aladdin is originally from The Arabian Nights, Jasmine is a young, Arabian princess, with her looks being summed up to simply "beautiful". Beaugrand’s story opens with a group of hunters, woodsmen and militia spending the Christmas period in Fort Richelieu, Quebec. ![]() This setting echoes another Canadian werewolf narrative, Henry Beaugrand’s ‘The Werwolves' (1898). Set in the nineteenth century, the two sisters are trapped in an isolated fort surrounded by frozen forest and attacked by werewolves. The final film in the trilogy, Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning (2004), answers the concerns regarding the ending of the first film – Brigitte kills her sister Ginger, the werewolf of the title − whilst drawing on earlier Gothic traditions. Ginger Snaps (2000) has been recognised as an exemplary example of feminist horror, yet the sequels have received little attention. All nine monstrosities appear to reflect upon Victor’s creature to make him seem more monstrous, but the creature is actually the mirror of a monstrous society and not an embodiment of monstrosity himself. ![]() The last three monstrosities examine the role of animals, women, and family in the novel, and how the creature reflects these various aspects in the context of how Shelley experienced them in the nineteenth-century. The three physical and mental monstrosities address the creature’s hybridity, strength, and mental acuity as a reflection of monstrous births, and Shelley’s own experience with human frailty and mental instability. The first three monstrosities connect the creation of the creature, his soul, and the science used to create him with the theological debates of the period regarding Christian resurrection, the status of the slave’s soul, and the changing status of science in Shelley’s era. Shelley addressed the monstrosities of her society through the creature, nine of which have been selected for this study and assorted into three categories: three spiritual, three physical and mental, and three social. Through a textual and historical analysis, this thesis will elucidate the spiritual, physical, mental, and social monstrosities within Frankenstein. This thesis argues that there is no monster, and Shelley’s intention was to display the monstrosity of her own society –– not to write a monster novel. By focusing on a single embodiment, scholars have neglected the monstrous aspects pervasive in the novel and ignored the fact that Shelley’s creature actually reflects nineteenth-century Britain. To date, the majority of scholars have framed the creature in Frankenstein as a monster. Throughout this analysis, Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein remains a touchstone, serving as an ideal metaphor for the nature of contemporary remix culture. This thesis aims to address that gap in scholarship, analysing Frankenfiction’s engagement with monstrosity (chapter one), parody (chapter two), popular historiography (chapter three), and models of authorial originality (chapter four). Too engaged with tradition for some, and not traditional enough for others, Frankenfiction is a bestselling genre that nevertheless remains peripheral to academic discussion. Frankenfiction is monstrous not only because of the fantastical monsters it contains, but because of its place at the margins of both remix and more established modes of appropriation. I do so by examining remix culture’s most ‘monstrous’ texts: Frankenfictions, or commercial narratives that insert fantastical monsters (zombies, vampires, werewolves, etc.) into classic literature and popular historical contexts. With this context in mind, in this thesis I explore the boundaries and connections between remix culture and its ‘others’ (adaptation, parody, the Gothic, Romanticism, postmodernism), asking how strong or tenuous they are in practice. ![]() This is especially true within the institutions such remixes seem to attack most directly: the heritage industry, high art, adaptation studies, and copyright law. Like other popular texts before them, remixes, mashups, and reboots are often read by critics as a sign of the artistic and moral degeneration of contemporary culture. Like monsters, they offer audiences the thrill of transgression in a safe and familiar format, mainstreaming the self-reflexive irony and cultural iconoclasm of postmodern art. ![]() Consumed by popular audiences on an unprecedented scale, but often derided by critics and academics, these texts are the ‘monsters’ of our age-hybrid creations that lurk at the limits of responsible consumption and acceptable appropriation. In the twenty-first century, the remix, the mashup, and the reboot have come to dominate Western popular culture. 7/8/2023 0 Comments Dirt 4 gameplay xbox 360![]() GET COMPETITIVE – Race the entire DiRT Community in Daily, Weekly and Monthly Challenges, with worldwide leaderboards and events. 7/8/2023 0 Comments Roasted carrots and parsnips![]() Glass loves that their silky texture purees into a smooth and delicious winter side dish. ![]() Not sure where to start? Try this spice-roasted carrots and parsnips with yogurt and turmeric vinaigrette. Moser says they’re “unbelievable” roasted, and she likes to roast them in french-fry shapes and make parsnip “fries” or alongside other root veggies like sweet potatoes and carrots for an easy side dish. You can also add chunks of them into your chicken soup for some extra sweetness. Glass especially loves them added and blended into potato leek soup for an extra silky texture and some sweetness. Moser finds parsnips are “fabulous” in soup. Now that you’ve prepped your parsnip, here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy it. If you find that you have a larger parsnip, or there’s a particularly woody core in the center, you can cut out the center to make it more palatable, Glass suggests. You’ll then want to peel the parsnip and cut it lengthwise. When you’re ready to cook your parsnips, snip any greenery left on the top (feel free to compost that, as there’s not much use for them) and wash the vegetable thoroughly to remove any dirt, Moser says. Similar to other fall foods, like apples, parsnips are put into cold storage to keep the produce fresh, crunchy, and flavorful through the winter, into early spring, says Debra Moser, co-founder of Central Farm Markets in Washington D.C. Comparatively, carrots tend to grow faster and are more cost-effective for a farmer with limited land. This is because they’re planted in the spring and harvested after the fall’s first frost, so they take up quite a bit of real estate on a farm, she explains. Though they look like their carrot cousins, they can’t be eaten raw and tend to be a little pricier, Glass says. Additionally, parsnips don’t grow as uniform as carrots do and typically have a long, skinny bottom and heftier top, she adds. ![]() You’ll usually find the root itself sold, Glass says. But, unlike carrots, parsnips are harvested after the first frost, so the greens tend to wilt quickly and aren’t particularly flavorful. Parsnips grow underground, similar to a carrot, and also have a leafy-green top. But it’s slowly finding its place on farm stands, and into side dishes, all over the United States. The crop thrives in cold temperatures, and even notably failed in the West Indies before making its way to the Americas. “They’re often overlooked by Americans, especially urban consumers,” says Juliet Glass, director of communications at FRESHFARM, a non-profit that operates producer-only farmers’ markets in the Mid-Atlantic region.
